School Site Council and ELAC

Olympic View Elementary School needs parents and guardians to support our school through important parent groups, such as the OPTC (Olympic View Parent Teacher Club), the School Site Council (often referred to as SSC), and the English Language Advisory Committee (often referred to as ELAC). The site-based groups work with the Principal, staff, and other community members to ensure that community voice is part of the shared decision making process of a public school.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC) is composed of five elected parent/community representatives and five elected staff/teacher representatives, as well as a parent and staff alternate. The role of the SSC is to develop, approve, and monitor the School Plan for Student Achievement.

With a few exceptions, meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month, at 4 pm. Until further notice, all meetings will be held online. All parents and staff are welcome to attend. Only official members of the SSC may vote in meetings. Council members serve for two year terms.

We have four open parent/community representative positions open this school year. Please fill out the form below if you wish to nominate yourself and serve on the Olympic View School Site Council. English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

Olympic View’s next ELAC Meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 15th at 3 pm and will be held online. Public elections for voting members will be held at this meeting.  A link will be sent in Sunday’s blog

CVESD DAC/DELAC Meeting

The district will continue to conduct all meetings online until further notice, including all DAC/DELAC meetings. DAC is the District Advisory Committee. DELAC is the District English Learner Advisory Committee. Both of these groups are designed to support and inform parents in a shared communication setting with the district. Parents learn with other parents and district leadership at the DAC/DELAC meetings.

The next DAC/DELAC Meeting will be on September 15th from 12 noon to 2 pm.

CVESD Board of Education Meeting

The district’s Board of Education meetings are also being held online and generally occur the second Wednesday of each month. USDA Extends Free Meals for Kids Through December 31, 2020 !!!! Olympic View will be providing meals for ALL OV students every Wednesday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm in the bus loop. Drive through and you will receive 5 days worth of meals. Open your trunk and we will place them there!!!

Many have questions about when school will reopen. Here are some resources:

Governor’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy”

In a move that will impact when schools may reopen for in-person instruction, the governor today announced a new county-by-county reopening framework. The new framework will replace the state’s current county monitoring list with a four-tiered system of monitoring criteria and restricted activities. Schools may reopen when their county moves from the “widespread” (purple) tier to the “substantial” (red) tier if they meet the established health state criteria for 14 consecutive days and remain below the purple tier for 14 days. In other words, a county must show improvement for 28 days total before its schools may reopen. Schools will also need to follow the industry guidance when they do reopen.  Schools located in counties that are on the “widespread” (purple) tier, which is equivalent to the previous county monitoring list, may not reopen for in-person instruction.

Monday, August 31 THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR THE 2020 – 2021 – DISTANCE LEARNING! Please note that the first week of school daily live interaction with teachers will be no more than 2 hours and those hours may consist of whole group, small group and individual connections. Please note: It is not an expectation at OV that all students will be on a computer screen live with the teacher for 2 solid hours.

Childcare was limited and OV had only 36 spots. Families who completed the

survey and who qualified were contacted and invited in the order they signed up. Childcare will begin the week of September 8. If you accepted a spot, you should have received an email from wmessina@ymca.org

Please follow the directions in the email to reserve your spot. If you have not received an email, please contact her ASAP. You will have only received an email if you were selected and called by the secretary and accepted the spot.

It is very important you fill out the Lunch Application. You can do it online (link below), or you can fill out the paper that is in your child’s materials bag. You can drop it off in front of the school office in the labeled drop off box.

Emails have been sent to families letting you know your child’s teacher. PLEASE NOTE…if you did not receive an email…

1. You registered within the last 3 days and your account in the messaging system is not active.
2. You received an email for one child but not the other: There is a glitch that we are working out OR you have two different emails listed for your children. Be sure to check all your active emails. (and junk mail)
3. Preschool Students are not active in the system yet. You will be contacted by the teacher.
4. Teachers will be contacting parents in the next few days to provide more information.
5. The Home Access Center is being updated and you will be able to see teacher name on Aug. 28
6. You must register in the Home Access Center with the email we have on file.
7. You can also call the office between 8 am – 4 pm to make sure we have an updated email.

Please note, class placement is carefully considered in order to balance classes and needs. No changes will be considered the first two weeks of school.

If your child’s login account is not active yet, you will receive your materials but not a computer if requested. You will need to come on the 2nd distribution date to be determined.

When coming to pick up materials, please enter the bus loop, taking a right off of S. Greensview. Please stay in your car and wear a mask. Please have sign with your child’s first and last name, grade level and teacher, if you know the teacher’s name. Please be prepared to open your trunk.

If you did not receive an email, or you cannot log into the Home Access Center, it means either we do not have a current email, or you are trying to create an account with an email we do not have on file. Please contact the office (619-656-2030) to provide, or check what email we have on file. Also, new registration within the last few days are most likely not populated into the system yet.

It is imperative, that whenever your contact info changes, you notify the office.
