Olympic View Elementary School needs parents and guardians to support our school through important parent groups, such as the OPTC (Olympic View Parent Teacher Club), the School Site Council (often referred to as SSC), and the English Language Advisory Committee (often referred to as ELAC). The site-based groups work with the Principal, staff, and other community members to ensure that community voice is part of the shared decision making process of a public school.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC) is composed of five elected parent/community representatives and five elected staff/teacher representatives, as well as a parent and staff alternate. The role of the SSC is to develop, approve, and monitor the School Plan for Student Achievement.

With a few exceptions, meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month, at 4 pm. Until further notice, all meetings will be held online. All parents and staff are welcome to attend. Only official members of the SSC may vote in meetings. Council members serve for two year terms.

The district will continue to conduct all meetings online until further notice, including all DAC/DELAC meetings. DAC is the District Advisory Committee. DELAC is the District English Learner Advisory Committee. Both of these groups are designed to support and inform parents in a shared communication setting with the district. Parents learn with other parents and district leadership at the DAC/DELAC meetings.

The next DAC/DELAC Meeting will be on September 15th from 12 noon to 2 pm.

Students will begin taking a math diagnostic assessment called iReady starting the week of Sept. 14. It is important that your child’s teacher get a valid diagnostic in order to best meet the needs of your child. Please WATCH THIS VIDEO on how you can support your child.

Many have questions about when school will reopen. Here are some resources:

Governor’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy”

In a move that will impact when schools may reopen for in-person instruction, the governor today announced a new county-by-county reopening framework. The new framework will replace the state’s current county monitoring list with a four-tiered system of monitoring criteria and restricted activities. Schools may reopen when their county moves from the “widespread” (purple) tier to the “substantial” (red) tier if they meet the established health state criteria for 14 consecutive days and remain below the purple tier for 14 days. In other words, a county must show improvement for 28 days total before its schools may reopen. Schools will also need to follow the industry guidance when they do reopen.  Schools located in counties that are on the “widespread” (purple) tier, which is equivalent to the previous county monitoring list, may not reopen for in-person instruction.

Monday, August 31 THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR THE 2020 – 2021 – DISTANCE LEARNING! Please note that the first week of school daily live interaction with teachers will be no more than 2 hours and those hours may consist of whole group, small group and individual connections. Please note: It is not an expectation at OV that all students will be on a computer screen live with the teacher for 2 solid hours.

Childcare was limited and OV had only 36 spots. Families who completed the

survey and who qualified were contacted and invited in the order they signed up. Childcare will begin the week of September 8. If you accepted a spot, you should have received an email from wmessina@ymca.org

Please follow the directions in the email to reserve your spot. If you have not received an email, please contact her ASAP. You will have only received an email if you were selected and called by the secretary and accepted the spot.

It is very important you fill out the Lunch Application. You can do it online (link below), or you can fill out the paper that is in your child’s materials bag. You can drop it off in front of the school office in the labeled drop off box.

In order to attend Camarena School ALL STUDENTS with the exception of incoming Kindergarteners who already registered, MUST provide documentation of residency. Click here for the residency verification form.
