Q: Why are we being asked to fill out a commitment form for the school year? Why not for the quarter?
A: Thank you for the feedback. Dr. Escobedo agrees that the commitment should be for the quarter. A similar survey would be sent out each quarter. Again, we want to reiterate that any opening is based on transmission rate data that will be continuously examined. Please tune in to the October 8 District Virtual Town Hall meeting for more details.
Q. I noticed the due date on the commitment form is before the town hall meeting with Superintendent Escobedo. Can we submit the form after the town hall meeting on 08 October, with hopes that our questions will be answered?
A: Olympic View did not specify a due date. It will be sometime AFTER the Town Hall Meeting.
We will be handing our the student Leader in Me books on Wednesday Sept. 30 between 2 and 4 pm. Please stop by the bus loop and pick up your child’s book, as teachers will begin using them for instruction.

We have been talking about the power of a growth mindset. Last weeks morning messages were all about how our brain is a muscle and needs exercise. School Site Council and ELAC
Olympic View Elementary School needs parents and guardians to support our school through important parent groups, such as the OPTC (Olympic View Parent Teacher Club), the School Site Council (often referred to as SSC), and the English Language Advisory Committee (often referred to as ELAC). The site-based groups work with the Principal, staff, and other community members to ensure that community voice is part of the shared decision making process of a public school.
SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC) is composed of five elected parent/community representatives and five elected staff/teacher representatives, as well as a parent and staff alternate. The role of the SSC is to develop, approve, and monitor the School Plan for Student Achievement.
With a few exceptions, meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month, at 4 pm. Until further notice, all meetings will be held online. All parents and staff are welcome to attend. Only official members of the SSC may vote in meetings. Council members serve for two year terms.

The district will continue to conduct all meetings online until further notice, including all DAC/DELAC meetings. DAC is the District Advisory Committee. DELAC is the District English Learner Advisory Committee. Both of these groups are designed to support and inform parents in a shared communication setting with the district. Parents learn with other parents and district leadership at the DAC/DELAC meetings.
The next DAC/DELAC Meeting will be on September 15th from 12 noon to 2 pm.

Students will begin taking a math diagnostic assessment called iReady starting the week of Sept. 14. It is important that your child’s teacher get a valid diagnostic in order to best meet the needs of your child. Please WATCH THIS VIDEO on how you can support your child.
USDA Extends Free Meals for Kids Through December 31, 2020 !!!! Olympic View will be providing meals for ALL OV students every Wednesday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm in the bus loop. Drive through and you will receive 5 days worth of meals. Open your trunk and we will place them there!!!

Many have questions about when school will reopen. Here are some resources:
Governor’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy”
In a move that will impact when schools may reopen for in-person instruction, the governor today announced a new county-by-county reopening framework. The new framework will replace the state’s current county monitoring list with a four-tiered system of monitoring criteria and restricted activities. Schools may reopen when their county moves from the “widespread” (purple) tier to the “substantial” (red) tier if they meet the established health state criteria for 14 consecutive days and remain below the purple tier for 14 days. In other words, a county must show improvement for 28 days total before its schools may reopen. Schools will also need to follow the industry guidance when they do reopen.
Schools located in counties that are on the “widespread” (purple) tier, which is equivalent to the previous county monitoring list, may not reopen for in-person instruction.
It is very important you fill out the Lunch Application. You can do it online (link below), or you can fill out the paper that is in your child’s materials bag. You can drop it off in front of the school office in the labeled drop off box. It is very important to fill out lunch application. If you have already submitted, you do not need to again. It’s time for Residency Verification! In order to attend Camarena School ALL STUDENTS with the exception of incoming Kindergarteners who already registered, MUST provide documentation of residency. Click here for the residency verification form. Click here for the 2nd Family Affidavit (if home is in someone else’s name). Past due bills are ok this year only, but no more than 60 days past due. Please note that California Compulsory Education Law requires everyone between the ages of six and eighteen years of age to attend school, except sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds who have graduated from high school or passed the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) and obtained parental permission to leave.
