What is ELAC?

  • ELAC stands for English Learner Advisory Committee.
  • It is for parents of students who are learning English and take the ELPAC test.
  • It is a place to learn how to support your child and learn about and advise the school regarding resources that support English Learners.
  • Translation is provided upon request
  • We meet approximately 1 time per month

You will find next quarter’s clubs’ information on the link attached; some of the clubs have different sessions to accommodate different grades, please verify this before enrolling.

Please note that we have been dealing with delays with our supplies’ shipments, so some of our clubs may not start on the date shown.

The registration process is the same as last quarter’s; once you are done registering, the student will be placed on a waiting list, after reviewing all applications students will be moved to the club’s roster; you will be receiving an email for both events. Confirmation of participation in a club will be sent by Friday, September 20th.

Remember, you can enroll in as many clubs as you want, if they do not overlap.

And, if a student is part of the LEAD Hub, they can join clubs too!

Parent-teacher conferences start soon. Please mark your calendars and plan for our modified schedule. Conferences begin Thursday, September 12, and end Thursday, September 19.  Remember, during the conference period,  TK through 6th-grade students have early dismissal (TK-K – 1:00 p.m. and 1st – 6th – 1:15 pm). Conference information has been sent home by your child’s teacher. Please know that our teachers will make every effort to meet in person with any legal guardian or parent who has educational rights for a child and that you may also request a follow-up meeting if you have further questions or concerns. Two security cameras were installed on campus Friday, Aug. 23. The first camera is in the front of the school and faces the parking lot/street area. The second camera is on the rear of the school and faces the

back playground gate and a partial view of the playground. During winter break, up to 10 more cameras will be installed. These cameras give a live view as well as records and saves footage.

Please obey traffic laws in and around the school.

Traffic is a challenge in our small parking lot. S. Greensview is a busy street. PLEASE SLOW DOWN. Do not use your cell phone while driving in and around the parking lot. The first week of school is always very busy. Please remind your child what lot you will be picking up in.

As a reminder…Please DO NOT park in any red marked areas. These are fire lanes and must be kept clear. Thank you.

Heat advisory

Attention Olympic View Families! With a heat advisory in effect from Wednesday to Friday, we’re taking proactive measures to keep everyone safe by modifying outdoor activities, utilizing air-conditioned spaces, and providing easy access to water throughout the day. Keeping our students and staff safe is the our top priority.

We will be postponing the obstacle course fund raiser that was scheduled this Friday to a future date. I will keep you updated when we have a new date. Please be sure to send water with your child to school. Reminder that Gatorade or sports drinks are not allowed in the classrooms. Thank you!

If you would like to volunteer this year, which includes going on a fieldtrip, please be sure to get all of the requirements completed. There are links to the required documents, and you can also get the forms in the school office. If you will require fingerprints, please see Linda Wong in the school office. You can get this done on Tues. and Thurs. from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. We are working on a night event to get this done as well, the week of Aug. 20. Stay tuned!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

DID YOU KNOW THAT IF YOUR CHILD IS OUT OF SCHOOL FOR THREE OR MORE DAYS, YOU CAN REQUEST AN INDEPENDENT STUDY CONTRACT? IF AN INDEPENDENT STUDY CONTRACT IS COMPLETED, YOUR CHILD RECEIVES ATTENDANCE CREDIT. FOR MORE INFORMATION, YOU CAN CONTACT Shelley Acosta (619-656-2030)

Students need to be at school every day and on time. Please make sure your child is here by 8:15 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop. Let’s continue to improve our attendance! If your child must be out sick, please contact the office at 619-656-2030 to excuse the absence. Remember to bring a doctors note when going to the Dr. or dentist.
