Olympic View Elementary and CVESD are seeking your input regarding our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals. We will be using the online tool Thought Exchange to gather your input from March 4 – March 15.  You can read the LCAP Executive Summary here: LCAP Executive Summary (Español) LCAP Executive Summary (English)  Beginning March 4 you will have the opportunity to tell us your thoughts about our funding priorities, programs, and more. The YMCA will be accepting donations towards the YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign. The ASC is conducted annually by dedicated volunteers to raise money in order to provide programming and scholarships for our youth, families, and seniors.
Refreshments & snacks will be sold
(ALL proceeds go towards YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign)
All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian!

CVESD and Magic 92.5 FM  launched a perfect attendance campaign on Friday, March 1. Here are the highlights of our “School is Where the Magic Happens” Perfect Attendance Campaign:

• The time period is Friday, March 1, 2019 through Friday, May 31, 2019.
• Magic 92.5 FM will provide randomly drawn winners with prize packs (eligible students are those with perfect attendance).
• Grades eligible are TK – Grade 12.
• All schools, District and charter, are eligible.

Good attendance helps children do well in school and eventually in the workplace. Good attendance matters for school success, starting as early prekindergarten and throughout elementary, middle and high school. “School is Where the Magic Happens” is an engaging reminder of the importance of good attendance.

We have a new addition on campus!  Near the YMCA in the south Drop off loop you will notice a donation bin.  You may drop off clothes and shoes you no longer need.  This saves all these items from going to a land fill.  The company empties the bin weekly, donates the clothes and plants trees all over the world.  Quarterly, our school receives money based on pounds.  This is a win win!  Clean out your closets, help others, help the environment and raise money for your school!  All proceeds will go towards the beautification of our campus!  All Lost and Found items not picked up by the last day of each quarter will be donated to the bin

Book Fair Starts Monday, Feb. 25 – March 1!

Golden Eagles had a great surprise when the Chula Vista Fire Department, Engine 58, dropped Clifford off on the blacktop during our morning message!

Feb. 22 – March 1 – Olympic View Read A Thon.  Your child received his/her Read a Thon sheet on Friday.  Help them keep track and record the number of minutes being read this next week.

Tues. Feb. 26 – Family Literacy Night from 6 – 8 pm.  Come shop with your family, enjoy dinner and enter a raffle.  We will also have a special story teller at 6:30 pm.

Wed. Feb. 27 –  McTeacher’s night at McDonald’s at the Eastlake location at Otay Lakes Rd. from 5 – 8 pm.  20% of all proceeds will go toward the 5th grade Riley’s Farm fieldtrip.  Come see your favorite teachers serve dinner.  Teachers will also be selling $5 McDonald’s coupon books in the lobby.  $2 of each book sold will go to the CVPD canine unit.  Come meet an officer and a Police canine!

Fri. March 1 – Read Across Olympic View in honor of Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ Birthday.  We will have over 30 guest readers on campus!  This will also be the last day for the book fair.

All of our 4th – 6th grade Golden Eagles wrote and delivered speeches in their classrooms.  On Friday, we had the classroom winners deliver their speeches to their peers and a panel of judges.  We are so proud of all of our students!  Congratulations to our school winners who will go on to compete at the district level.

Monday, Feb. 4 – English Learners will begin ELPAC Testing.  Students will be testing in the morning.  Please make sure:

Tuesday, Feb. 5 – Olympic View will be hosting teachers and administrators from our district.  We will have approximately 70 guests so please note parking will be impacted.

Monday, Jan. 28 – Talent Show auditions for grades K-3 at 2:45 in the auditorum

Wednesday, Jan. 30 – Talent Show auditions for grades 4 – 6 in the auditorium

Wednesday, Jan. 30 – Smart Mind Robotics after school Program will begin.

Please note that students auditioning for the talent show must have turned in an performer’s application and have the music or props needed for audition.  Auditions will be closed, and parents may wait outside the auditorium.

Thursday, Jan. 31 – Coffee with the Principal – postponed to Feb. 19

Friday, Feb. 1 – Kids Heart Challenge (Jump For Heart) at 8:30 am.  Parents are welcome. Students can wear a sports jersey.

Our school has officially started the Kids Heart Challenge (formerly Jump Rope for Heart) with the American Heart Association.  The event will be held on Feb. 1 at 8:30 am. Download the free APP Kids Heart Challenge OR go online at Olympic View’s Heart Hero Page .  You can earn a free glow in  the dark bracelet just for registering and our school can also earn PE/Recess Equipment! Just send 10 emails or ecards today!

It is not too late to sign up for Fit Kids after school sports.  Scholarships are available for Federal Employees.  Use the email located on the flyer.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey regarding the spending of OPTC funds.  The top 2 responses were shade structures and a leadership program for students, staff and parents.  I am currently getting quotes from the district for the shade structures.

Save the date! January 23 at 4 pm.  We will be having a first ever all committee meeting.  The school Site Council, ELAC/MFA, OPTC will come together.  A representative from “Leader In Me,” will be presenting information regarding the program.  All are welcome to attend. Childcare provided ages 3 and up.
