Hello Friends and Community Members!
More than 12,000 families in the Los Angeles area have lost their homes in the recent fires. We want to do everything we can to help our neighbors to the north!
We are collecting new teddy bears/stuffed animals and letters of encouragement to support children who have lost their homes in these fires.
This collection drive is in honor of a local college student, Olivia, who lost her home in the Jamul Harris fire in 2007. During that time, she was given a doll with an encouraging note attached and has kept it through the years as a reminder of the kind gesture of a stranger.
She donated a bear with a note attached to our first collection on January 13th. In honor of her donation and experience we would like to provide other children with new teddy bears and notes of encouragement. Please see the attached picture of Olivia’s bear and note.
Here is how you can help:
Collect new teddy bears/stuffed animals:
Collect notes of encouragement for children impacted by the fires: These notes will likely be read to children by family members, so keeping them short, sincere, and positive will be appreciated. Please encourage your volunteers to decorate the notes to make them beautiful reminders that our community loves and supports these children.
You can place your donation in the tub outside the school office.
The deadline for donations is January 24th so we can deliver them on the 25th.
Please reach out to us to let us know if you can participate or if you have questions.
Thank you in advance for your support! #BearhugsforLA
