Week of May 30 – June 3

Monday, May 30 – NO SCHOOL

Dear Olympic View Families and Friends,

We are all saddened by last week’s senseless tragedy in Texas. As a principal who deeply cares for our students, families and staff, it has been difficult for me to find the words to voice my feelings.

At Olympic View Elementary, we must work together to keep our school community safe.  A starting point is that if you see something, say something.  Discuss with your children that we do not make jokes about harming others.  We encourage families to have age-appropriate conversations with your children about what happened in Texas last Tuesday.  Our school counselor and school psychologist, are available to provide support for students on campus, but we know that parents and legal guardians are a vital part of a child’s education that extends outside of school hours.

I would like to share two resources with you to support these conversations.  Here is a San Diego County Office of Education resource for parents and educators to discuss school shootings:  https://www.sdcoe.net/about-sdcoe/news/post/~board/news/post/resources-to-discuss-school-shootings

Another great resource is Sandy Hook Promise:  https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/

If you have not yet read Dr. Reyes’ statement, please do so now by clicking on the link here.

Children and educators should be able to go to school free from violence. As we move forward together, I call on our school community to remember that every action begins with each one of us. I urge each of you to take good care of yourselves and your families and to find ways to connect with one another through compassion. Please know that our school can provide resources to any families who feel they need support.

Together, we can provide the comfort and care needed for our children.  We pledge to partner with families to move forward and heal.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the school office.

Yours in safety and education,

Lisa Lines, Principal

Chula Vista Elementary School District- We tested you or your child in the past:
We will continue to test at no cost to the individual. The government requires our school and Covid Clinic to ask if parents have insurance or are uninsured.
If parents do have insurance, they will need to fill out the form using the link below. If the parents are uninsured, they will still need to click the link below to indicate this and complete the application for state COVID-19 testing coverage.

YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED FOR TESTING!!!

Please watch this detailed video: IMPORTANT: We have provided COVID-19 testing for you or your dependents during the COVID-19 pandemic. A new California law (SB 510) took effect January 1, 2022, and requires California private insurance plans to pay for ALL COVID-19 testing received by you and your dependents at any time during the COVID-19 pandemic, at no cost to you. Additionally, federal funding via HRSA will no longer cover testing for those without insurance. To make sure you and your dependents receive the benefit of this new law, and so you do not receive a bill from us for COVID-19 testing, we need your insurance information now. Once you provide us with accurate insurance information, we will bill and accept payment from your insurance plan (at no out of pocket cost to you or your dependents) for any COVID-19 testing received from us in the past or in the future. But without your accurate insurance information, we cannot help you and your dependents to receive the benefit of this new law.
Please contact Covid Clinic at k12@covidclinic.org with any questions.
